Shchekinoazot Reduced Eelectric Power Consumption with CCC Control System

A group of CCC (Compressor Controls Corporation) experts received a highly regarded citation from Mr. S. Zemlyaninov, Deputy Director, Automation/Communication, United Chemical Company Shchekinoazot, Ltd.
While retrofitting the methanol production unit M-100, the company has purchased and commissioned CCC Antisurge Control System for K-180-131-1 compressor. As a result, the microprocessor-based Control System from CCC is for over six months successfully running the electric motor driven compressor, providing antisurge protection integrated with the electric motor protection. The system also features automatic start/stop/load modes.

The main benefits of the implemented system are: high-precision monitoring of the technological condition of gas (pressure, temperature, molecular weight, disturbances); instant tune-up of the Control System’s control parameters, which provide the minimum opening of the recirculation valves and keep them in mostly closed position. The savings from reduced electric power consumption of the driver reached 18% level during 6-month of operation, in comparison with the pre-retrofit condition of the compressor unit when the suction valve and the recirculation valves were controlled separately.

In his letter Mr. S. Zemlyaninov pointed-out the high professionalism of CCC personnel who were involved in engineering, commissioning and the start-up of the Control System.

United Chemical Company Shchekinoazot, Ltd. represents interests of a large group of Russian chemical companies that specialize in manufacture of industrial chemicals, engineering plastics, synthetic fibers, cord fabrics, special goods and consumer commodities. CCC and PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical Ethylene Plant: Two CGCs in Parallel are Running Automatically

Compressor Controls Corporation’s (CCC) field engineer Mr. Chenhong Ren, representing a team of CCC experts, received the Honorable Certificate issued by Mr. Fu, Director of PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical Ethylene Plant. This certificate expresses high appreciation for the outstanding contribution of CCC engineers, including rapid response, excellent technological expertise and professionalism during the commissioning services of this ethylene plant retrofit, thus making the start-up a great success.

CCC has successfully implemented the retrofit of parallel charge gas compressors (CGC) at PetroChina Liaoyang Ethylene Plant, the first of its kind in China. “This is indeed a key milestone for CCC, especially for CCC-China,” - says Dr. Chorng-hour Yang, Director of China Operations for CCC. The retrofit includes Series 5 Vanguard Duplex integrated control system, providing antisurge control, parallel load sharing, speed, extraction steam and header suction pressure control.

Both parallel CGCs have started up smoothly without the need of trial and error; they are running automatically now under CCC control system. CCC was chosen based on its technologies, application expertise, flexibility to meet tight project schedules, and support capabilities after installation. CCC and PetroChina Liaoyang have been working hand-in-hand during the project execution to define cost effective control solutions, coordinate multiple parties and optimize project scheduling.

The project had such high visibility in China that PetroChina Corporation had to approve it at the headquarter level. Mr. Geng, President of Liaoyang Petrochemical Corporation, emphasized the importance of supporting this project and requested progress report every week. Mr. Weng, Deputy Chief Engineer of Liaoyang Petrochemical, who was the direct overseer of the project, stated that Liaoyang leaders are very satisfied with CCC work. He considers it a tremendous success for both CCC and Liaoyang and looks forward to CCC helping Liaoyang to sort out more compressor control problems in their other plants.
