CCC Celebrates 35th Anniversary

Compressor Controls Corporation (CCC) hosted a 35th Anniversary Open House for current and retired employees and their families. This celebration was in recognition of the dedication and service of our employees and customers who have made CCC successful. We had several distinguished members of the community present and were pleasantly surprised on the number of our retirees including the founder Naum Staroselsky. Tim Winfrey, Senior Vice President, Roper Industries, Inc. and Chris Krieps, President, CCC both made speeches and presented Naum Staroselsky with an award in appreciation and gratitude from Compressor Controls Corporation.

CCC's journey was started in 1974 by Naum Staroselsky, a Russian immigrant with a PhD from Leningrad Polytechnic University. He and his family arrived in Des Moines facing significant obstacles; he had no relatives, no English language skills, and no money. However, he did have his knowledge, 14 patents in the field of turbomachinery controls and an idea. Naum explained his success simply in 1999 at the 25 year anniversary, "from kindness, good things follow" reflecting on the kindness of the local community that took him in. His ideas were initiated with two people in one room growing to 300 employees based in over 12 countries in 35 years.

The torch has been handed over to all of us to continue the legacy of this great company. In keeping with the spirit of the creation of CCC, we must always be mindful that each person is a part owner in its success. We all have to take our place and contribute to the best of our ability to the customer value and welcome the next contributor as one of our own to grow as we have.

Job satisfaction is not only for the craftsman who makes wonderful furniture or the artist who paints beautiful pictures, it is part and parcel of every job we do well. Our job is very much part of what we are. Love it or loathe it, it says a lot about us. So does the place we choose to work. We are proud that you have chosen to work with us here and have continued your career path at Compressor Controls Corporation. Each one of you has something to offer and even those of us who do the same job do it in different ways.

It would be wrong for us to congratulate ourselves without recognizing it is the customers that keep CCC profitable and moving ahead. From the first customer that took that leap of faith in an unproven solution to those today who know CCC for its 35 years of contribution. We cannot survive without customers and we should always let them know we appreciate that fact. Customer recognition makes all the difference between a successful business and one that fails.

As a company we too have our goals and based on past experience, that together we can achieve them. We may need to put some extra effort or may need to make a change in direction but as a team we have accomplished 35 years of operation. Our thanks go to all employees and their families for their on-going contributions to making CCC successful.

CCC and SibMethaKhim: Energy Saving in Methanol Production

A group of Compressor Controls Corporation's (CCC) experts was cited by management of the largest Russian methanol producer - the Siberian Methanol Chemical Company LLC (SibMethaKhim).

Mr. I. G. Sentsov - Head of Methanol Production, and Mr. R. M. Garifullin - Lead Technologist, expressed high appreciation for the outstanding contribution of CCC engineers, including rapid response, professionalism and excellent technological expertise during all stages of this project, thus making the modernization of their conversion gas compressor and steam turbine for methanol production a great success.

The compressor was equipped with an advanced microprocessor-based antisurge control system including steam turbine control with High & Low Pressure (HP&LP) servomotors having pilot valves directly governed by high precision explosion-proof, electro-mechanical actuators.

The system provides steam turbine automatic startup per predefined algorithms as well as automatic shutdown and operation within design range per design task.

During operation, the system demonstrates high precision response to different conditions of gas compression of the technological process (pressure, temperature, technological volatility, furnaces switchover and other external disturbances). The system provides instant speed adjustment and parameters control minimizing the opening of antisurge valves. Thanks to CCC controls, the valves are mainly closed, quite different from operating positions before modernization.

The system increases process productivity thanks to increased quality of process control. Steam balance consumption has been optimized due to improved synchronized interaction between turbine speed and extraction control. Unique steam load distribution algorithms provided optimized performance of the entire turbo-compressor.

During three months of operation the system has provided an essential energy (steam) savings due to controls accuracy with total reduction of steam consumption at 12% against similar gas flow through the compressor before modernization.

Siberian Methanol Chemical Company LLC (SibMethaKhim) LLC, a joint venture between SIBUR Holding and Vostokgazprom, has methanol production around 750,000 tons p/y.
