Two of the challenges associated with turbocompressors and turbines are:

• providing ways to effectively represent their current operation relative to various design limits;
• record and replay the high-fidelity data needed to diagnose trips, upsets and other critical events.

The TrainTools TrainView2 (TV2) HMI program and web client are specifically designed to meet those challenges by displaying a collection of interactive TV Pictures that can include:

• trend graphs that plot current or replay recorded OPC data,
• scrollable lists of current alarms and recorded events,
• operating maps that display compressor and gas turbine conditions relative to various performance limitations,
• dynamic process drawings for monitoring the operation of turbomachinery trains,
• interactive controller faceplates for operating control loops,
• tabular lists of controller field inputs and outputs,
• interface navigation bars.

Those TV pictures are continuously updated to reflect current process conditions, as reported by OPC/DA, alarm and event, and archival data server programs running on the same or other PCs.

Conversely, clicking buttons and other operator actions can trigger controller actions by changing command variables (switching or setting control loop set points, for example). The system can be engineered to automatically create periodic (shift, daily, weekly, etc.) operating reports and incident-triggered critical event reports. In addition, the archived data underlying the trend graphs and event lists can be easily exported to files for remote viewing using the TrainTools Archival Data Utilities or analysis using third-party software.
The interface can be set up to display its text elements in either of two configurable languages (for example, English or Russian, with on-the-fly switching between them. Access to critical program and process features is controlled by the TrainTools security system. User accounts, passwords, and access levels are set using the supplied Administrator program.

TrainView2 Program vs TV2Web Client
The TV2 HMI is provided as both an installable program and a downloadable TV2Web plugin for Internet Explorer. Both operate as clients of TrainTools OPC, alarm and event, and archival data servers, so the full TrainTools Server software package must be installed on either the host or a separate PC:

• The TrainView2 program is a collection of software modules whose operation and server connections are configured by an engineered project database. Installation of that program on at least one server or workstation is required, because it has capabilities the TV2Web plugin does not (such as the export of archived data). That software can be installed on the TrainTools Server and/or as many client workstations as desired. Client PCs usually communicate via TrainTools Web Services, but the standard Windows DCOM service is also supported.
• The TV2Web Client is an Internet Explorer plugin that displays TV2 pictures in a browser window. It and the project database that configure its operation are downloaded by connecting IE to a TV2Web page installed on a TrainTools Server.

Features include:

• Can be run on server PC or separate workstations
• Multiple clients can connect to each server using web or DCOM communication services
• Downloadable web client option for remote workstations, with server-side security
